Safer Communities/ND-SCAN: What's in the local drug supply?
The unregulated or "street" drug supply changes rapidly and includes many substances that can hurt or kill people who use drugs. The ND-SCAN lab detects tiny residues of drug materials on "drug trash" so we can learn what's actually in the local supply. Our goals: enable people who use drugs to make safer decisions and connect with necessary care and treatment, and provide emergency responders and caregivers with the information they need to provide appropriate treatment.

Safer Communities: Drug Test Strip Lot Checking Program
Drug test strips are crucial tools to detect high potency substances that can cause overdoses, but they are not regulated by any governmental agency. The lot checking program is a free service for test strip manufacturers, harm reduction organizations, and community health departments. We test the test strips.
- Can specific batches of strips detect their target at concentrations that are relevant to drug checking?
- Do they mistake other drugs or cutting agents for the target substance?
- Are the labels and instructions clear and useful?
