Manu Prakash has done it again--following up his $1 paper microscope with a hand-powered paper centrifuge that can spin down blood samples at a blistering 125,000 rpm.  This piece in the Atlantic is a good starting point.  More on the device physics at Nature Biomedical Engineering (Jan 10 issue).
